Gilboa

Gilboa (meaning boiling spring or revolution of inquiry) is a mountain range in northern Israel, now called Jebel Fukua', rising on the eastern side of the Jezreel Valley southeast of Jezreel. It is most memorable as the scene of Saul's disastrous defeat by the Philistines in which his three sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua were slain, and Saul himself died by his own hand to avoid capture (1 Sam. 28:4; 31:1–6). David's lament over Saul and Jonathan includes the memorable curse: "Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain upon you" (2 Sam. 1:21), marking the site as one associated with mourning and shame.
