Giloh

Giloh (meaning he that rejoices; he that overturns) was a town in the hill country of Judah listed among the cities in Joshua's allotment (Josh. 15:51). It is best known as the hometown of Ahithophel, the brilliant counselor who served David but then defected to Absalom's rebellion (2 Sam. 15:12). When Absalom rejected his strategic counsel in favor of Hushai's advice, Ahithophel perceived that the rebellion would fail, returned home to Giloh, set his house in order, and hanged himself (2 Sam. 17:23). The site has not been positively identified.
