Glossa Ordinaria
Concept
The Glossa Ordinaria (“the Ordinary Gloss”) is not a person but the standard medieval commentary on the whole Bible — a running set of marginal and interlinear notes distilled from the Fathers, assembled in the twelfth-century schools (associated with Anselm of Laon). It was the basic exegetical handbook of the medieval university and a staple source for later compilers.
