Goblet

A goblet was a rounded drinking vessel, often distinguished from an ordinary cup by its more ornate form. In the Song of Solomon 7:2, the beloved's navel is compared to "a round goblet which wanteth not liquor" — a poetic image of graceful form and abundance. In a more somber vein, the prophets employ the cup or goblet as a symbol of divine judgment: God compels the nations to drink from the cup of his wrath (Jer. 25:15; Rev. 14:10). Silver goblets were among the tableware in Egyptian royal households, as illustrated by the silver cup hidden in Benjamin's sack by Joseph's command (Gen. 44:2).
