Godhead

"Godhead" is an archaic English term denoting the divine nature or essence, occurring three times in the King James Bible to render distinct Greek words. In Acts 17:29 (theion) Paul declares that the divine nature is not like gold, silver, or stone; in Romans 1:20 (theiotēs) the eternal power and divine nature are visible in creation; in Colossians 2:9 (theotēs) Paul states that in Christ "dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." The Colossians passage is the most theologically significant: it asserts that the complete divine nature, not merely divine attributes, is permanently and bodily present in the incarnate Christ. This text became central in Trinitarian and Christological debates about the full deity of Jesus.
