Hareth
Place
Hareth (meaning thicket) was a wood or forest in the mountains of Judah where David took refuge with his men during the period of his flight from King Saul. The prophet Gad instructed David to leave the cave of Adullam and go into the land of Judah, and David went to the forest of Hareth (1 Samuel 22:5). Its exact location has not been identified with certainty, though it lay in the hill country of Judah. The adjacent verse (2 Samuel 23:14; 1 Chronicles 11:16) mentions a Philistine garrison at Bethlehem and David holding the stronghold, suggesting Hareth was somewhere in the general area between Adullam and Bethlehem.
