Harosheth of the Gentiles

Harosheth of the Gentiles (literally the woodlands of the nations) was the home city and military base of Sisera, the captain of the army of Jabin king of Canaan (Judges 4:2), and was located near Hazor in the northern Jezreel Valley region. Sisera garrisoned at Harosheth his 900 iron chariots — the military superiority that made Jabin's oppression of Israel so daunting for twenty years. After the victory of Deborah and Barak on Mount Tabor, the fleeing Canaanite army was pursued to Harosheth: "All the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left" (Judges 4:16).

The city's name includes a reference to "Gentiles" or "nations" (hagoyim), suggesting it was a mixed or predominantly non-Israelite population center. It has been tentatively identified with Tell Amr near modern Haifa at the northern entrance to the Jezreel Valley, where the Kishon River exits into the coastal plain — a strategic location that controlled the route between the valley and the coast.
