Haruz
Person Name
Name meaning: "careful"
Haruz (meaning eager or careful) was the father of Meshullemeth, the wife of Manasseh king of Judah and mother of Amon (2 Kings 21:19). He was from Jotbah, a location in Galilee, making Meshullemeth one of the northern women who married into the Judahite royal family. Amon succeeded his father Manasseh and reigned for two years before being assassinated by his servants. The mention of Haruz's hometown and patronymic in the royal succession formula is consistent with the Deuteronomistic History's standard notation of each king's mother's name and origin — a practice that recognized the queen mother's significance in ancient Israelite court life.
