Hashabiah

Hashabiah (meaning regarded by Jehovah or the estimation of the LORD) is one of the more frequently recurring names in the post-exilic period, borne by at least a dozen individuals in Chronicles, Ezra, and Nehemiah. Among the most notable: (1) a Merarite Levite in the Davidic genealogy of the temple singers (1 Chronicles 6:45; 9:14); (2) a son of Jeduthun, appointed to lead the twelfth course of Levitical musicians (1 Chronicles 25:3, 19); (3) a chief of the Hebronites whom David set over the tribes west of the Jordan for all affairs of God and the king (1 Chronicles 26:30); (4) a chief Levite under Josiah who contributed to the Passover celebration (2 Chronicles 35:9); and (5) a leader who traveled with Ezra from Babylon and was entrusted with the temple treasures for the journey (Ezra 8:19, 24). Several Hashabiahites signed the covenant renewal under Nehemiah (Nehemiah 10:11; 11:15, 22; 12:21, 24).
