Hatach

Hatach (meaning verity or he that strikes) was a eunuch or chamberlain in the palace of Ahasuerus (Xerxes) of Persia, appointed by the king to attend Queen Esther (Esther 4:5–10). He served as the crucial intermediary between Esther in the palace and Mordecai at the king's gate during the crisis of Haman's decree against the Jews. Hatach carried Esther's questions to Mordecai, brought back Mordecai's urgent message about the decree and his appeal to Esther to intercede with the king, and returned to tell Esther Mordecai's response — including the famous statement that Esther had come to the kingdom "for such a time as this" (Esther 4:14).
