Hathath

Person Name

Name meaning: "fear"

Hathath (meaning terror or fear) was a son of Othniel, the first judge of Israel, listed in the Judahite genealogy of 1 Chronicles 4:13. Othniel son of Kenaz — who had also distinguished himself by capturing Kirjath-sepher (Judges 1:12–13; 3:9–11) — founded a lineage in Judah that included Hathath and Meonothai. Beyond this genealogical reference, nothing further is recorded about Hathath himself in the biblical text. His father Othniel remains the more significant figure, known as the judge who delivered Israel from Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia.
