Haymo of Halberstadt

Haymo (died 853), a Carolingian monk of Fulda and later bishop of Halberstadt, was a biblical commentator whose expositions of the Epistles and other books circulated widely in the medieval schools (some works under his name are of debated authorship).

Haymo's plainspoken expositions of the Pauline Epistles and other books were prized in the medieval schools for making the Fathers' teaching accessible to students and preachers, and they circulated widely under his name (though modern scholars assign some to Haymo of Auxerre). His work belongs to the Carolingian effort to gather and order the church's inherited exegesis.
