Hazar-gaddah

Hazar-gaddah (meaning village of fortune) was a city on the southern border of Judah, listed in Joshua 15:27 among the towns of Judah in the southernmost district (the Negev). It lay in the area between Beersheba and the Edomite border — the sparse but inhabited zone of wells and seasonal pasture that marked the edge of the cultivable land. Like many of the place names in this catalogue, its precise location has not been confirmed by modern archaeology, though it likely lay in the broad Negev region south of Beersheba.
