Hazezon-tamar

Hazezon-tamar (meaning pruning of the palm or drawing near to bitterness) was the original name of the city later called En-gedi, located on the western shore of the Dead Sea in the wilderness of Judah. It appears in Genesis 14:7 as the place where the eastern coalition kings (led by Chedorlaomer) defeated the Amorites, and in 2 Chronicles 20:2 Jehoshaphat is warned that a vast army has come from beyond the Dead Sea "even from Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi." En-gedi, famous for its oasis spring and as David's refuge from Saul (1 Samuel 23:29; 24:1), was one of the most important locations in the Judean wilderness.
