Helkath

Place

Helkath (meaning part; portion of the field) was a border town in the territory of Asher (Josh. 19:25), assigned as a Levitical city to the Gershonite Levites (Josh. 21:31). In 1 Chronicles 6:75 it is called Hukok. The site is generally identified with modern Tell el-Qasis in the Kishon Valley east of Haifa, though certainty is elusive. It served both as a boundary marker for Asher's allotment and as one of the cities where Levites were stationed among the tribes.
