Heman

Heman (meaning faithful; their trouble; tumult) is the name of two biblical figures. (1.) The son of Zerah of Judah, renowned for his wisdom — he is listed alongside Chalcol and Darda as men whose wisdom Solomon's surpassed (1 Kings 4:31; 1 Chr. 2:6). He may have authored Psalm 88, titled "A Psalm of Heman the Ezrahite." (2.) The grandson of Samuel, son of Joel, a Levitical musician appointed by David as one of the chief singers and instrumentalists for the worship at the tabernacle (1 Chr. 6:33; 15:17; 25:1). This Heman led a choir of 14 sons and 3 daughters, representing the seventy "horns" by which God exalted him (1 Chr. 25:4–8). He was placed at the center of the three-man leadership of worship, flanked by Asaph on his right and Ethan (Jeduthun) on his left.
