Henadad

Henadad (meaning grace of the beloved or grace of Hadad) was the head of a family of Levites whose descendants helped Zerubbabel with the rebuilding of the temple after the return from Babylon (Ezra 3:9) and later helped Nehemiah rebuild the wall of Jerusalem (Neh. 3:18, 24; 10:9). The name contains the theophoric element Hadad, the Aramean storm deity, reflecting the hybrid naming patterns common among Israelites with connections to the wider Semitic world. Members of this family held positions of responsibility in both the temple reconstruction and the covenant renewal under Nehemiah.
