Herodians

The Herodians were a Jewish political party who supported the Herodian dynasty's continued rule over Palestine and the accommodation to Roman imperial power that it represented. Though not a religious sect, they aligned with the Pharisees on at least one occasion in their shared opposition to Jesus: after Jesus healed the withered hand on the Sabbath, the Pharisees and Herodians conspired to destroy him (Mark 3:6). They were sent together to trap Jesus with the question about paying taxes to Caesar (Mark 12:13–17; Matt. 22:16), which Jesus famously deflected with "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's." Jesus warned his disciples against "the leaven of Herod" (Mark 8:15) alongside the leaven of the Pharisees, suggesting a corrupting political influence.
