Hezir

Hezir (meaning swine or strong) is the name of two men in the Old Testament. (1.) The head of the seventeenth priestly course in David's organization of temple worship (1 Chr. 24:15). (2.) One of the chiefs of the people who set his seal to the covenant of national renewal in Nehemiah's time (Neh. 10:20). Both names reflect the continuity of priestly and lay leadership across the pre-exilic and post-exilic periods of Israel's history.
