Hezron
Name
Name meaning: "the dart of joy; the division of the song"
Hezron (meaning the dart of joy; the division of the song) is the name of two important figures in the genealogies. (1.) The third son of Reuben (Gen. 46:9; Ex. 6:14) and head of the Hezronite family in that tribe. (2.) The older son of Pharez (son of Judah and Tamar), and a critical link in the Messianic genealogy: Hezron of Judah is listed as an ancestor of David (Ruth 4:18–19; 1 Chr. 2:5, 9) and consequently of Jesus Christ (Matt. 1:3; Luke 3:33). His descendants through Ram/Aram included Amminadab, Nahshon, and ultimately David, making Hezron an important figure in the royal and messianic lineage. Also a place name: Hazor-Hezron (Josh. 15:25) is a town in southern Judah.
