Higgaion

Higgaion is a musical or liturgical term appearing in the superscription or text of three psalms. In Psalm 92:3 it denotes the "murmuring tone" or meditative sound of the harp. In Psalm 9:16 it appears alongside Selah as a performance direction, possibly indicating a pause for meditation or a dramatic interlude in the instrumental music. In Psalm 19:14 it is used for "meditation" in the phrase "let... the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight." The exact nature of the musical instruction has been lost; interpretations range from a particular melody to a sign indicating contemplative playing. The root hāgāh means to murmur, muse, or meditate.
