Horem

Horem was one of the fenced (fortified) cities of the tribe of Naphtali, listed in Joshua 19:38 among the cities of Naphtali's allotment in the northern territories of Canaan. The name, meaning an offering dedicated to God or consecrated, reflects the Hebrew root ḥrm related to the concept of holy dedication or sacred destruction. Beyond its appearance in this boundary and city list, Horem receives no further mention in the biblical narrative.

The tribal allotments of Naphtali placed it in the upper Galilee region, including territory around the Sea of Galilee and the Huleh basin northward toward the Lebanon range. Horem's precise location within this territory is unidentified by archaeology. The list of Naphtali's cities in Joshua 19 is part of the formal territorial division supervised by Eleazar and Joshua at Shiloh, establishing the land grants that were to define tribal identity and inheritance through subsequent generations.
