Hukkok

Hukkok was a border town on the tribal boundary of Naphtali, mentioned in Joshua 19:34 as a landmark point where the territory of Naphtali met the tribal lands of Asher and Zebulun. The name, meaning engraver or decreed, suggests either a craftsman's settlement or a place with some association with legal or written records. It is identified in 1 Chronicles 6:75 as the same location called Helkath, which was assigned to the Levites of the Gershomite clan from the territory of Asher.

The modern identification is proposed as Yakuk, a village on the northwestern slopes above the Plain of Gennesaret (Sea of Galilee), in the region where the territories of Naphtali, Asher, and Zebulun converged. The area around the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee was later associated with Jesus's Galilean ministry, and Matthew 4:13–16 quotes Isaiah 9:1–2's reference to the lands of Zebulun and Naphtali as receiving the light of the Messiah—the same region that included Hukkok's territory.
