Ilai

Ilai the Ahohite was one of David's mighty warriors, listed among the thirty in 1 Chronicles 11:29. He is identified as an Ahohite — a member of the clan descended from Ahoah, a Benjaminite family that produced several of David's most distinguished soldiers, including Eleazar son of Dodo, one of the three chief heroes. In the parallel list of 2 Samuel 23:28 the name appears as Zalmon the Ahohite, a textual variation that may reflect scribal error or a dual name.

Beyond his inclusion in the roster of David's warriors, Ilai receives no individual narrative in Scripture. The list of the thirty in 1 Chronicles 11 and 2 Samuel 23 preserves the names of the elite fighting force that formed the nucleus of David's military establishment, many of whom joined him during his years as an outlaw in the wilderness before he became king.
