Imla

Imla (also spelled Imlah) was the father of Micaiah, the prophet who confronted Ahab and Jehoshaphat before the Battle of Ramoth-gilead. In 1 Kings 22:8–9 and 2 Chronicles 18:7–8, when Jehoshaphat requests a prophet of the LORD beyond Ahab's four hundred court prophets, Ahab responds: "There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imla, by whom we may inquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me." Imla's son then delivers the famous vision of the lying spirit among the heavenly court and the prophecy of Ahab's death.

Imla himself receives no narrative of his own; he is identified only as Micaiah's father. His name means replenisher, and he is remembered entirely through the courage of his son, who stood alone against the false optimism of Ahab's court prophets and paid for his faithfulness with imprisonment.
