Ithrite

Ithrite is a designation applied to two of David's thirty mighty warriors: Ira and Gareb, listed in 2 Samuel 23:38 and 1 Chronicles 11:40. The term likely indicates membership in a clan or family group — the Ithrites — mentioned in 1 Chronicles 2:53 among the families of Kiriath-jearim: the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites. Kiriath-jearim, the city where the ark of the LORD rested for twenty years before David brought it to Jerusalem (1 Samuel 7:1–2), was a significant location, and men from this vicinity evidently joined David's military establishment.

Beyond the clan name and the two warriors it identifies, the Ithrites receive no further narrative in Scripture. Their inclusion among David's elite thirty reinforces the picture of David drawing loyal warriors from diverse clans and towns throughout Israel during both his outlaw years and his reign.
