Jaakan

Jaakan (meaning tribulation; labor), also called Akan or Jakan (Gen. 36:27; 1 Chr. 1:42), was a Horite chief in Edom, the son of Ezer and grandson of Seir. His descendants gave their name to Beeroth-bene-jaakan ("wells of the sons of Jaakan"), a stopping point in Israel's wilderness journey listed in Numbers 33:31–32 and Deuteronomy 10:6. The name appears in slightly varied forms in the biblical text — Jaakan, Akan, and Jakan — reflecting the normal orthographic variation in ancient Semitic names.
