Name meaning: "answering; afflicting; making poor"

Jaanai (meaning answering; afflicting; making poor) was a chief of the tribe of Gad, listed among the heads of the Gadite families who dwelt in Gilead in Bashan (1 Chr. 5:12). He appears only in this genealogical register of the Gadites and is not otherwise mentioned in the biblical narrative. The Gadite chiefs were men of valor who occupied the trans-Jordan territories east of the Sea of Galilee.
