Jaaz-aniah

Jaaz-aniah (meaning the strength of the Lord, similar to Jaaziel) appears in two distinct contexts. (1.) A Rechabite chief whose faithfulness to the Rechabite vow of abstinence from wine Jeremiah used as an object lesson of covenantal faithfulness (Jer. 35:3). The Rechabites honored their ancestor Jonadab's command not to drink wine, live in houses, or plant vineyards — in contrast to Israel's persistent disobedience of God's commands. (2.) A son of Shaphan seen in Ezekiel's vision of idolatry practiced by Jerusalem's elders in a secret chamber of the temple (Ezek. 8:11).
