Jaazer

Jaazer (meaning God helps) was an Amorite city east of the Jordan River in the region of Gilead, captured by the Israelites as they passed through Transjordan (Num. 21:32). It was subsequently assigned to the tribe of Gad (Num. 32:1, 35; Josh. 13:25) and designated a Levitical city for the Merarites (Josh. 21:39; 1 Chr. 6:81). The city was known for its excellent pasturage and came under Moabite control in later periods (Isa. 16:8–9; Jer. 48:32). David sent officials there to conduct a census of the Gadites (1 Chr. 26:31).
