Jabal

Jabal (meaning which glides away) was the son of Lamech and Adah, a descendant of Cain, described as "the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle" (Gen. 4:20). He is presented as the ancestor of the pastoral nomadic way of life — those who raised livestock and lived in portable tents. His brother Jubal was the ancestor of musicians, and his half-brother Tubal-cain was the ancestor of metalworkers. These three brothers represent the three primary cultural streams of early human civilization: pastoral nomadism, music and the arts, and metalworking. The genealogy of Cain's line (Gen. 4:17–24) culminates in Lamech's violent boast, contrasting with the godly line of Seth.
