Jabin

Jabin (meaning discerner; the wise) is the name of two kings of Hazor in northern Canaan. (1.) Jabin king of Hazor formed a great northern coalition against Joshua at the time of the conquest, but was defeated at the Waters of Merom; Hazor was then burned (Josh. 11:1–14). (2.) A later king of Hazor (likely a dynastic name) who oppressed Israel for twenty years, employing Sisera as his military commander with 900 iron chariots. The prophetess Deborah and the general Barak rallied Israel against him; his forces were routed at the river Kishon, and Sisera was killed by Jael (Judg. 4–5). The victory is celebrated in the song of Deborah, one of the oldest poems in the Bible. Psalm 83:9 invokes the defeat of Jabin as a model for prayers against Israel's enemies.
