Jachin

Jachin (meaning he that strengthens and makes steadfast) is the name of several persons and one of the two bronze pillars of Solomon's temple (see Jachin and Boaz). As a personal name: (1.) The fourth son of Simeon (Gen. 46:10; Ex. 6:15), ancestor of the Jachinite clan (Num. 26:12). (2.) The head of the twenty-first course of priests in David's organization (1 Chr. 24:17). (3.) A priest who returned from exile (1 Chr. 9:10; Neh. 11:10). The name was popular in priestly circles, perhaps because it expressed the stability of divine support for the worshiping community.
