Jaddua

Jaddua (meaning known) is the name of two men. (1.) A Levite who sealed the covenant of national renewal under Nehemiah (Neh. 10:21). (2.) The high priest who is mentioned as the last high priest named in the book of Nehemiah (Neh. 12:11, 22), serving in the days of Darius the Persian. Josephus records a tradition that this Jaddua was high priest when Alexander the Great visited Jerusalem (c. 332 B.C.) and was shown the prophecy of Daniel concerning the Greek conquest, but this is not confirmed by Scripture. The genealogy through Jaddua represents the line of high priests into the early Hellenistic period.
