Jael

Jael (meaning he that ascends; a kid) was the wife of Heber the Kenite, celebrated in the song of Deborah as "blessed above women" for her killing of Sisera, the Canaanite general who commanded Jabin's 900 iron chariots (Judg. 4:17–22; 5:24–27). When Sisera's army was routed by Barak and Deborah at the Kishon River, he fled on foot and sought refuge with Jael's household, which was at peace with Jabin's king. Jael welcomed him, hid him under a rug, gave him milk when he asked for water, and when he slept drove a tent peg through his temple with a mallet, killing him. The act is morally complex — scholars debate whether it constituted a betrayal of hospitality or a legitimate act of resistance — but the narrative and the song celebrate it as God's vindication of Israel through an unexpected instrument.
