Jahath

Jahath (meaning broken in pieces; descending) is the name of several men. (1.) A son of Reaiah, descendant of Judah (1 Chr. 4:2). (2.) A Levite, son of Libni, a Gershonite (1 Chr. 6:20, 43). (3.) A son of Shimei, a Gershonite Levite in David's organization (1 Chr. 23:10–11). (4.) An Izharite Levite in David's service (1 Chr. 24:22). (5.) A Merarite Levite who supervised repairs to the temple under Josiah (2 Chr. 34:12). The name was common among the Levitical families, suggesting a hereditary usage within particular clans.
