Jahaz

Jahaz (also Jahaza or Jahzah; meaning quarrel; dispute) was the site of Israel's decisive battle against Sihon king of the Amorites, in which Moses led Israel to victory and took possession of all Sihon's land (Num. 21:23–25; Deut. 2:32–36; Judg. 11:20). The city was subsequently assigned to Reuben (Josh. 13:18) and designated a Levitical city (Josh. 21:36; 1 Chr. 6:78). The Moabite Stone (Mesha Stele, 9th century B.C.) mentions Jahaz as having been taken from Israel by Moab, and both Isaiah and Jeremiah include it in their prophecies against Moab (Isa. 15:4; Jer. 48:21, 34). The site is identified in the area of the Medeba plateau in modern Jordan.
