Jair

Jair (meaning he diffuses light; my light) is the name of several men, the most notable being: (1.) The son of Segub and grandson of Hezron of Judah, who through his mother's family had connections to Manasseh. He conquered 23 cities in Gilead and named them "Havoth-jair" ("villages of Jair," Num. 32:41; Deut. 3:14; 1 Chr. 2:22). (2.) Jair the Gileadite, the ninth judge of Israel, who judged Israel for 22 years and had 30 sons who rode 30 donkeys and held 30 cities in Gilead (also called Havoth-jair, Judg. 10:3–5). (3.) The father of Mordecai the cousin of Esther (Esth. 2:5). (4.) The father of Elhanan who slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath (1 Chr. 20:5). The name's use across multiple prominent figures reflects its continued popularity.
