Jamieson, Fausset and Brown

A Commentary Critical, Experimental, and Practical on the Old and New Testaments (1871), commonly known as Jamieson-Fausset-Brown or JFB, is a three-volume one-stop commentary covering all sixty-six books of the Bible. It was written jointly by Robert Jamieson (1802–1880), a Church of Scotland minister who handled the Old Testament historical books; A. R. Fausset (1821–1910), an Anglican clergyman who contributed much of the remainder of the Old Testament and the Revelation; and David Brown (1803–1897), a Free Church of Scotland minister and principal of Aberdeen Free Church College, who wrote the New Testament volumes. The commentary is notable for its blend of textual ("critical"), devotional ("experimental"), and homiletical ("practical") perspectives, its broad evangelical orthodoxy, its concise verse-by-verse notes, and its accessibility to the general reader. It entered the public domain and has remained one of the most widely consulted single-volume Bible commentaries in the English-speaking world.
