Jared

Jared (meaning descent; a ruling; commanding) was the fifth antediluvian patriarch in the line from Seth to Noah — the son of Mahalaleel and father of Enoch (Gen. 5:15–20; 1 Chr. 1:2; Luke 3:37). He lived 962 years, the second-longest lifespan recorded in Scripture after Methuselah. At age 162 he became the father of Enoch, who "walked with God" and was taken without dying (Gen. 5:21–24). Jared appears in Luke's genealogy of Jesus in the line from Adam to Christ. In the extra-biblical book of 1 Enoch, Jared is associated with the coming of the Watchers (fallen angels) to earth — a tradition not found in Scripture.
