Jarib (meaning fighting; chiding; multiplying; avenging) is the name of three men. (1.) A son of Simeon (1 Chr. 4:24), also called Jachin (Gen. 46:10; Ex. 6:15). (2.) One of the leaders Ezra sent to Casiphia to obtain Levites for the return from Babylonian exile (Ezra 8:16). (3.) One of the priests who had married foreign wives and agreed to put them away at Ezra's reform (Ezra 10:18). The name appears in a range of historical contexts across the Persian-period restoration community.
