Jarmuth

Jarmuth (meaning height; fearing death) was an important Canaanite city in the Shephelah of Judah whose king Piram joined the Amorite coalition against Gibeon after Israel's treaty with the Gibeonites. Joshua defeated this coalition at Aijalon (Josh. 10:3–5, 23) and the king of Jarmuth was executed (Josh. 10:26). The city was assigned to Judah (Josh. 15:35) and resettled by Jews after the exile (Neh. 11:29). It is identified with modern Khirbet Yarmuk. Jarmuth was also a Levitical city in Issachar (Josh. 21:29), called Remeth in Joshua 19:21.
