Jasher

The Book of Jasher (Hebrew sēfer hayyāshār, "Book of the Upright" or "Book of the Just") was an ancient Israelite collection of poetry or heroic song, cited twice in the Old Testament. Joshua 10:13 quotes from it the poetic command for the sun and moon to stand still at Aijalon. Second Samuel 1:18 directs that the lament of David over Saul and Jonathan ("the song of the bow") be taught to the children of Judah, and that it is written in the Book of Jasher. The book is not otherwise preserved; various later works claiming this title are medieval forgeries. The LXX renders "the Book of the Upright One," suggesting a collection of noble deeds and patriotic poetry analogous to other lost national song-books of the ancient world.
