Jasper

Jasper (Hebrew yashpheh; Greek iaspis) is a precious stone appearing in the high priest's breastplate (Ex. 28:20; 39:13) and in the eschatological visions of Scripture. Ancient jasper was probably not the opaque stone known today by that name but a translucent gem of various colors — perhaps a form of chalcedony or green quartz. In Revelation, the glory of God shines "like a jasper stone, clear as crystal" (Rev. 4:3; 21:11), and the first foundation of the New Jerusalem's wall is jasper (Rev. 21:18–19). The wall of the New Jerusalem itself is built of jasper. Its use to describe divine radiance suggests it was prized for brilliance and clarity.
