Jedidiah

Jedidiah (meaning beloved of the LORD) was the name given by God through the prophet Nathan to Solomon at his birth, as a token of divine favor and acceptance (2 Samuel 12:25). The name was delivered immediately after the death of the first child born to David and Bathsheba, which had been a judgment on David's sin with her. The birth of Solomon and the name Jedidiah signal God's gracious restoration of David's household despite his failure.

Solomon is not recorded as using this name publicly — he is known throughout his reign simply as Solomon (meaning peaceful). Jedidiah functioned as a private divine affirmation, an assurance from God himself that this child was beloved. The name has been connected typologically to the declaration over Jesus at his baptism: "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:17), in which the divine affirmation of the son prefigures the greater Son of David.
