Jehaleleel

Jehaleleel (also spelled Jehallelel; meaning praising God or clearness of God) is the name of two minor figures in the Old Testament. The first was a descendant of Judah through Caleb's second wife, whose sons are listed in the genealogy of 1 Chronicles 4:16 (1 Chronicles 4:16). The second was a Levite of the family of Merari, whose son Azariah assisted in the cleansing of the temple under Hezekiah (2 Chronicles 29:12).

Both figures are minor participants in the larger genealogical and narrative framework of Chronicles. Their inclusion reflects the Chronicler's interest in comprehensive genealogical coverage of Judah and the Levitical families whose descendants would return from exile and reconstitute the Israelite community. The name itself — praising God — is theologically appropriate for a Levite associated with temple worship.
