Jehiel

Jehiel is the name of at least nine different individuals in the Old Testament, most of them minor Levitical or Benjamite figures. The most prominent are: the son of Hachmoni who served as a companion to David's sons (1 Chronicles 27:32); a Levite musician appointed to play a harp before the ark during its transfer to Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 15:18, 20); and Jehiel, the father of Gibeon, an ancestor of King Saul (1 Chronicles 9:35).

The name (related to a root meaning "God lives" or "may God live") was common enough in Israel to be shared by many unrelated individuals. Their appearances across Chronicles, Ezra, and Nehemiah reflect the Chronicler's comprehensive genealogical interest in the families who constituted pre-exilic Israel and the post-exilic restoration community.
