Jehizkiah

Jehizkiah (meaning strength of the LORD) was a leader of the tribe of Ephraim who, together with three other chieftains, opposed the prophet Oded's initiative when he met the army of Israel returning with 200,000 captives from Judah after a victory over King Ahaz (2 Chronicles 28:12). These four leaders listened to the prophet's rebuke — that Israel had sinned in capturing their Judahite brothers — and prevailed upon the army to release the captives, clothe and feed them, and return them to Jericho.

This episode stands out as a rare moment in the divided monarchy's history when prophetic rebuke was immediately heeded and brotherly solidarity prevailed over military triumph. Jehizkiah appears only in this passage but plays a significant role in an act of covenant justice that the Chronicler preserves as a model of proper response to prophetic correction.
