Jehohanan

Jehohanan (meaning grace or gift of the LORD; the same name as John/Johanan) was borne by at least six individuals in the Old Testament. Notable bearers include: a Levite gatekeeper son of Meshelemiah (1 Chronicles 26:3); a military commander under Jehoshaphat, commanding 280,000 men of Judah (2 Chronicles 17:15); a chief of Ephraim who joined in releasing the Judahite captives brought back by Pekah's army (2 Chronicles 28:12); and a Levitical singer and a priest during the time of Nehemiah (Nehemiah 12:42).

The name is the long form of the name ultimately shortened to Johanan, John (Ioannes in Greek), one of the most common Jewish names by the Second Temple period. Its meaning — grace of the LORD — was theologically apt for a name that became central to New Testament narrative through John the Baptist and the apostle John.
