Jehonathan
Name meaning: "gift of the Lord; gift of a dove"
Jehonathan (meaning gift of the LORD; a long form of Jonathan) is the name of three minor biblical figures. A Levite teacher sent by Jehoshaphat to teach the law in the cities of Judah (2 Chronicles 17:8); a son of Uzziah who served as overseer of David's storehouses (1 Chronicles 27:25); and a priestly family name in the time of Nehemiah (Nehemiah 12:18).
The name is the fuller form of the famous Jonathan (Saul's son, David's covenant friend), and means the same — the LORD has given. The Levite teacher sent by Jehoshaphat reflects the king's notable initiative in establishing systematic instruction in the law throughout Judah, a reform the Chronicler presents as the foundation of Jehoshaphat's otherwise faithful reign.
